Conduit Capital is building a $127m power plant in West Kingston, Jamaica, to be operated and managed by Conduit’s Jamaica Energy Partners on behalf of its sister company West Kingston Power Partners (WKPP).

Construction of the 66MW project has started and is expected to become operational by early 2012.

The greenfield project will initially be fired by oil, and can also be made compatible to work on natural gas.

IFC, along with Bank of Nova Scotia and First Caribbean International Bank, Finnvera, the export credit agency of Finland, and four development finance organisations: DEG of Germany, FMO of the Netherlands, CAF, the Andean Development Bank and CIFI, the regional infrastructure development bank, will finance the project.
