Suzlon Energy has signed a pact with Hindustan Zinc to set up, operate and maintain 150MW of wind power projects in India with a total investment of Rs8.65bn ($191m).

The projects will be set up in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The projects will be carried out in two phases with the first 50MW phase to be completed by March 2011 and the second by September 2011.

Suzlon will provide its S82-1.5MW and S88-2.1MW wind turbine models for the projects.

Electricity generated from the projects will be bought by the state governments’ distribution utilities under a long-term pact.
