Cimarron Solar Facility in New Mexico, US, has begun commercial operations, the developer of the project has announced.
The 30MW facility, constructed by Tempe and First Solar, will generate power for around 9,000 homes and will be operated and maintained by the two firms under a long-term contract.
The Cimarron Solar facility uses about 500,000 advanced thin-film photovoltaic modules developed by First Solar, and is located on a 1.47km² site within the service territory Springer Electric Cooperative in New Mexico.
The project will supply electricity under a 25-year power purchase agreement to Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association.
The association in turn will supply power to 44 electric cooperatives, serving 1.5 million consumers across Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming in the US.
