Trainel has awarded Alstom a $761m contract to build the 80-turbine Borkum West II wind farm, offshore Germany.
The farm, located 45km offshore the island of Borkum, would use wind turbines, each with a capacity of up to 5MW of power.
Alstom’s main subcontractor will be WeserWind Offshore Construction Georgsmarienhütte.
The contract is the first project financing deal for the offshore wind industry in Germany, according to Bloomberg.
The project is estimated to have enough power for 200,000 homes in the region upon completion, which is scheduled for March 2012.
