The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a loan of €450m ($620m) to TenneT Holding for the construction and operation of a 83km 380kV transmission connection between the Hague and Rotterdam.
This will help the ‘Randstad 380’ extra-high voltage electricity transmission ring to become complete and operational by early 2013.
The loan will aid in the construction of the project, which will connect offshore wind farms and the UK interconnector to the Dutch high-voltage grid, and enhance the electricity supply in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht cities and the surrounding Randstad region.
Upon completion, the Randstad 380kV link will improve the international electricity links between the Netherlands and France, Belgium, the UK and Germany.
The judgment given by the Council of State in December last year with regards to the integration plan and spatial decisions for this project precedes the financial agreement.
