India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has partnered with the Spanish firm Abengoa for the construction of Concentrated Solar Power projects in India.
BHEL chairman and managing director BP Rao, and Abengoa chairman and CEO Santiago Seage signed an agreement in Seville, Spain, on the proposed partnership, according to a statement released by Indian Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
Both companies have agreed to leverage their engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capabilities for the completion of the proposed projects.
The companies have also agreed to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and global warming by using CSP technologies, which converts the energy of the sun for power generation.
The agreement is in tune with the Indian Government’s recently launched Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, which aims at setting up 20,000MW of solar power projects by 2022.
