Babcock has won four contracts worth £86m ($139.4m) to supply radiometric services support at Sellafield nuclear waste management site.

The Sellafield site comprises more than 1000 nuclear facilities including the Magnox and Thorp reprocessing plants, the Sellafield MOX plant and a range of nuclear waste treatment facilities.

Under the contracts, Babcock will be provide nuclear material assay (NMA) maintenance delivery and support, along with maintenance delivery and workshop repairs for installed and portable radiological protection instrumentation (IRPI and PRPI).

The firm will also offer calibration and repair of maintenance and test equipment (MTE), and specialist technical and consultancy support to Sellafield for ad-hoc specialist measurements.

The services will ensure safety compliance to maintain ongoing operations and provide a maintenance and obsolescence management programme across the site.

The NMA, RPI and MTE contracts are valid for up to 12 years, while the specialist measurements contract has a duration of a four years.
