Siemens Energy plans to build a combined cycle power plant for Grupo Mexico subsidiary, Minera Mexico in Sonora State, Mexico.
The 250MW La Caridad plant is scheduled to come onstream in 2013 and provide electricity for Minera Mexico’s copper mines.
Siemens will provide engineering, procurement, and construction works at the plant.
Main equipment supplied to the plant will include a SGT6-5,000F gas turbine, a SST-900 steam turbine, electric generators, a heat-recovery steam generator, and the complete electrical and SPPA-T3000 Instrumentation & Control equipment.
Grupo Mexico executive president Xavier Garcia de Quevedo said that electric power accounts for 30% of operation costs and the plant will meet its power needs for Sonora, providing a 40% reduction in costs.
Siemens will also offer operation and maintenance of the plant, under a long-term service agreement.
