ARB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Primoris Services, has received a contract to overhaul the El Segundo Generating Station in El Segundo, California, US.

The modernisation work is expected to begin in May 2011 and will be completed by the second quarter of 2013.

Under the contract, ARB will replace two older generating units at the El Segundo facility with 550MW natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant.

The plant, designed to be an air-cooled facility, will comply with new environmental requirements on the use of ocean water for cooling purposes.

The new technology used will enable the plant to ramp up to 150MW in ten minutes as compared with traditional start up time of six to 12 hours.
