The Australian Government plans to arrive at a carbon tax price decision after negotiations with electric generators are held in the coming weeks.
Climate Change Minister Greg Combet told the Australian Associated Press (AAP) that the government will be engaged with the major energy players to discuss the way in which the sector will be treated in relation to the carbon tax.
He added that the government was considering applying an emissions intensity approach to electricity, which this would require reviewing wholesale electricity prices and considering whether to apply a different kind of emissions trading scheme to electricity.
The government is yet to work out appropriate compensation measures for industry.
