The UK Government has brought out a draft carbon plan, which will aim to achieve the country’s climate change goals and domestic carbon targets.

The draft focuses on the need for a shift in electricity generation from fossil fuels to low carbon sources including renewable sources, nuclear power and conventional power plants equipped with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.

The plan also looks at changing approach to heating homes and businesses from gas boilers to low carbon alternatives including heat pumps.

In addition, the action plan focuses on transportation and the need for switching to public transport and cutting down emissions through low carbon technologies.

The draft also outlines the UK’s role within the EU and with other countries for encouraging climate change.

The action plan elaborates on different timelines including those for basing a carbon price, approval of CCS projects and creation of a green investment bank.

As a part of the effort, the DECC plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Local Government Association to set out a framework for cooperation between the bodies.
