Google has signed a second power purchase agreement with NextEra Energy to buy 100.8MW of wind energy from NextEra Energy’s Minco II Wind Energy Center in Oklahoma, US.

The agreement enables Google to increase the share of electricity it consumes in its data centres from renewable energy.

The Minco II comprises 63 GE 1.6MW wind turbines and is expected to commence operations by the end of 2011.

Google is strategically buying wind energy from the projects that are on the same grid as its data centres, and is planning to construct a centre in Oklahoma this year.

Last year Google signed a PPA with NextEra to purchase 114MW of wind energy from its Story II wind farm in Iowa for 20 years .
