India’s state-run NHPC plans to generate in excess of 18.6 billion kW/h of power in 2011/12.

The firm’s target last year was 18 billion kW/h, and it produced 18.5 billion kW/h. This year it hopes to surpass this figure, Reuters quoted Chairman A B L Srivastava as saying.

NHPC plans to install 1080MW of new capacity in the current financial year.

The company will spend INR50bn ($1.1bn) to reach its target, compared to the INR38bn ($850m) it spent last year to install 120MW of capacity.
