Iberdrola has received regulatory approvals for the construction of a 300MW Desert Wind Power wind farm in North Carolina, US.
The $600m worth wind facility will be constructed on 8,000ha of scrubland and consist of 150 wind turbines, reports Reuters.
Once complete, the plant will be capable of generating electricity sufficient to power about 55,000 to 70,000 homes in North Carolina.
The power generated from the plant will be sold to electric utilities that use green energy to meet state requirements.
Iberdrola must ensure that the wind turbines to be installed in the plant do not interfere with the wildlife habitats, bird migration patterns or military flight routes.
