Joule Africa has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sierra Leone ministry of energy and water resources to develop the second phase of the Bumbuna Hydroelectric power station.
The project will have a generating capacity of 350MW, bringing the total Bumbuna power capacity to 400MW.
Initial feasibility studies for the project are expected to begin within 30 days and the project is slated to begin operations by 2017.
The first phase of the 50MW project, which took 30 years to complete, was commissioned in 2009.
