India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) plans to build a 726MW gas-based thermal power project in the state of Tripura.
ONGC has formed ONGC Tripura Power Company to construct the INR90bn ($2bn) project, which will be located in Palatana, 60km south of Tripura.
In consortium with General Electric, state-run BHEL will supply all-important gas turbines for the thermal power project.
The first unit, with a capacity of 363MW, is scheduled to start power generation by this December and the plant is expected to be fully operational by March 2012.
