Green Mountain Power (GMP) has selected Vestas Wind Systems turbines for its 63MW renewable wind project in Lowell.

The company will install Vestas V112 3MW wind turbines at its Kingdom Community Wind project in Lowell, Colchester, UK.

The installation of the wind turbines will result in the decrease of the project’s levelised energy costs from a projected 10.3 cents per kWh to a projected 9.2 cents per kWh.

Upon completion, the plant is expected to generate enough electricity for 24,000 homes, and to provide 8% and 4% of all the electricity GMP customers and VEC members respectively.

The increased production of the Vestas V112 3.0 also means a larger education tax fund payment, as well as higher payments to the Good Neighbor Fund.

Construction of the project is expected to begin in August.
