Belectric and Smart Energy Capital have formed a joint venture to co-develop and finance utility-grade photovoltaic (PV) power plants throughout the US.

The JV plans to develop multi-MW utility-grade PV power plants on a greenfield basis and also through acquisitions from qualified developers.

The annoucement follows a recent collaboration by the companies for the sale of Belectric’s 30MW project to Constellation Energy in the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s feed-in tariff programme.

Belectric COO and president David Taggart said the joint venture will enable the development of more projects at a faster rate and offer a path forward to true price parity with fossil fuel power plants.
