Bechtel Babcock Nuclear Solutions, a joint venture between Babcock and Bechtel, has been contracted by Sellafield for the pile fuel cladding silo retrieval project in the UK.
Work under the contract, which is valued at around £120-150m, includes design, procurement, manufacture, works testing, delivery to site, installation and commissioning of silo doors and retrieval and waste handling modules.
The project will be executed in three phases over six years. Phase one, involving mobilisation and project familiarisation, is expected to start immediately and take six months to complete.
Phase two, which includes completion of the design, specifications, procurement packages and safety case support, will commence in September 2011.
