A new report urges Europe to focus on implementing low-cost green technologies to mitigate carbon emissions in line with its 2020 emissions reduction target.

The report, Climate Change Policy: Time for Plan B, drafted by UK-based charity Policy Exchange, stressed that the European climate policy approach must be made accessible to be adopted by other nations including China and the US.

The report also recommends that the EU’s 2020 renewable energy target must be abandoned as it calls for the implementation of expensive and immature technologies.

Further, the EU and UK must put more focus on the low carbon research, development and demonstration to promote innovation to reduce mitigation with global appeal, says the report.
