A consortium formed by Leighton Contractors and GE has received a $130m engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) to build the Mumbida Wind Farm in Australia.

The 55MW plant will supply renewable electricity to the South West Interconnected System, which is sufficient to power about 35,000 homes.

The contract includes installation of wind turbine generators on 85m towers, electrical and civil balance of plant and a 22kV / 132kV substation.

GE will also provide maintenance services after the completion of the plant under a ten-year agreement.

Construction of the plant is expected to be complete by November 2012.
