NTPC has received a notice to shut down four units of 500MW each at its Talcher super thermal power station in Orissa, India.
The notice was given by state agency Orissa State Pollution Control Board for NTPC’s alleged failure to address concerns over fly ash disposal from the plant’s six units.
NTPC runs the units with a combined thermal power generation capacity of 3,000MW per annum.
The state pollution control board noted that the four ash ponds created to dump fly ash generated from the burning of coal will achieve full capacity by October.
The agency said the ponds can accommodate only two units, reports The Hindu.
