Alstom Grid has secured a contract worth €80m from Calik Energy to supply electric transmission equipment for gas/fuel oil power plants in Iraq.

The equipment will be installed at two gas/fuel oil power plants being constructed by Calik Energy in Al-Khairat and Nainawa.

Under the contract Alstom will oversee the installation of 400kV GIS substations, 250MVA power transformers, 300MVA grid auto transformers, 320MVA and 160MVA generator step-up transformers.

Upon completion, the plants will contribute about 200MW of energy to Iraq.

Construction of the first phase of the plants is expected to start in June 2012 and the second phase in October 2012.
