BP Wind Energy has signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) totalling 105MW from its Mehoopany Wind Farm in Pennsylvania, US.

The PPA’s, negotiated by the National Renewables Cooperative Organization (NRCO), include 75MW and 30MW with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative respectively.

The Mehoopany Wind Farm will be built 20 miles north-west of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and will be capable of generating 144MW of energy.

The plant will be equipped with 90 GE 1.6MW wind turbines, with construction expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011 and starting commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2012.
