Metso has secured two contracts to supply two combined heat and power (CHP) producing boiler plants, one to Fortum Power and Heat Oy in Finland and the other to Fortum Jelgava in Latvia.
The first unit is expected to produce about 280GWh of heat and 130GWh of electricity, while the second is expected to generate 230GWh of heat and 110 GWh of electricity.
Under the engineering, procurement and construction contract, Metso will install the plants, which will be based on bubbling fluidised-bed technology.
The plants are designed to use biomass fuels, which will help reduce CO2 emissions once they begin operations in mid 2013.
