US-based SunPower plans to own and operate a new solar panel manufacturing facility in Mexico, US.

The company, in cooperation Industrial Development Commission of Mexicali, will lease an 320,000ft² existing building to set up the unit.

SunPower will produce its E18 series, E19 series and E20 series solar panels for residential, commercial and power plant projects, and also produce its SunPower T5 Solar Roof Tile system.

Development of the new manufacturing facility is in line with SunPower’s strategy to expand its upstream vertical integration for local panel manufacturing.
