Siemens Energy has secured a contract from WindMW to supply 80 wind turbines to be installed at the 288MW Meerwind Sud and Meerwind Ost wind project in Bremerhaven, Germany.

The company secured the contract from WindMW, majority owned by funds managed by Blackstone and Windland Energieerzeugungs, which will construct and operate the wind farm.

Under the contract, Siemens will supply, install and commission the wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6MW and a rotor diameter of 120m each at the wind farm.

The turbines will be will be installed over an area of 42km² and at 22 to 26m deep at the farm, which will generate power sufficient for 400,000 homes.

The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2013.
