Shikoku Electric Power has closed operations at its 269MW No 1 unit at its gas-fired Sakaide plant in Japan.

The plant was closed due to the concerns over a steam leak from a boiler tube, reports Reuters.

Even after the suspension of the unit, the company expects to generate sufficient energy to meet the summer demand.

The company plans to resume operations at the units by 4 September, when the 566MW No 1 reactor at its Ikata plant will be shut for planned maintenance.
