Renewable energy and energy storage group Gaelectric and XEMC VWEC have signed contracts to co-develop three wind farms in Ireland.

The value of the three projects is estimated at around €18m and the projects are expected to have a combined capacity of 13.6MW.

XEMC VWEC will deploy its new XV90 turbines for the first time at three Gaelectric on-shore sites; County Roscommon, County Offaly and in Westmeath.

The turbines installed at the site are based on XEMC’s direct drive permanent magnet generator turbine technology, which avoids the requirement for generator gearboxes, thereby reducing weight and improving reliability.

The companies also inked a letter of intent to co-develop Gaelectric’s pipeline of wind energy projects in Ireland.
