Japanese electric utility Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said it plans to increase the power supply to Tohoku Electric Power to more than 3,000MW this month.

Tohoku Electric lost about 1,000MW of power due to the heavy rains in July and barely managed to secure stable power supplies, reports Reuters.

Meanwhile, Tohoku Electric will double the capacity of power it can supply to TEPCO to around 5,000MW by next year to avoid rolling blackouts.

Tohoku Electric said it will be unable to restart the three quake-hit fossil-fired units with a combined capacity of 3,396MW by this year.
