The Government of Argentina will award Candu Energy a $44m contract for the extension of the life of the Embalse nuclear power plant in Córdoba.

The government will invest about $1.3bn to extend the life of the plant by 30 years and increase its output capacity by 35MW.

Nucleoelectrica Argentina will oversee the project and the plant will use most of the domestically manufactured components.

Work on the project has already commenced and is expected to be completed in four years.
