Capital Power and TransAlta have begun commercial operations at the 495MW Keephills 3 generating facility in Canada, which has been built at an estimated cost of $1.98bn.

Capital Power was responsible for the construction of the plant while TransAlta will be the operator.

The project is equipped with an advanced air quality control system and mercury emission control system, which helps to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and particulate emissions.

Keephills 3 joins the Genesee 3 facility, another project jointly owned by TransAlta / Capital, as one of Canada’s cleanest coal-fired facilities.
