Babcock & Wilcox Construction (BWCC) has secured two contracts from Berlin Station to build a 75MW biomass plant in New Hampshire, US.

The contracts include a $186m engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract a $19m contract to provide operations and maintenance services for the plant.

BWCC will convert the former Fraser Paper Mill into a biomass plant, which will be equipped with all B&W-supplied equipment.

The firm and its affiliated companies will be responsible for design and supply material to convert the plant’s existing black liquor recovery boiler to a bubbling fluidised bed boiler and to supply the plant’s selective catalytic reduction system for nitrogen oxide control.

The companies will also provide a bag house for the control of particulates emissions, a continuous emissions monitoring system and other plant equipment.

Work on the project is expected to begin immediately and the plant is expected to start operations by 2013.
