Hyundai Engineering & Construction has secured a $1.27bn contract to construct the main plant at the Mong Duong power project in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.

The first turbine of the 1,080MW coal-fired power plant is expected to be operational in 2015 and the second turbine will be operational later in the same year.

The plant will be capable of generating up to 6.5 billion kilowatt hours annually and will use about 3t of coal a year, reports Vietnam news.
