UK-based Wood Group Engineering, a subsidiary of the John Wood Group, has been contracted to design and manufacture two offshore substations by AREVA T&D on the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm.
The 88-turbine 315MW wind farm is sited just inside the 12-mile territorial limit of Sheringham on the UK’s North Norfolk coast.

The 88-turbine 315MW wind farm has the potential to supply 220,000 homes.
Scira Offshore is jointly owned by Norwegian companies StatoilHydro ASA and Statkraft AS.
Power from the 88 wind turbines will be captured by the two offshore substations before being sent to shore. Capturing energy via unmanned offshore substations at the source prior to sending it to shore will be more energy efficient than using onshore substations, the company said.
