Egypt is assigning 126,000ha of land on its Red Sea coast for new wind power projects.
The plots are situated in the Gulf of Suez area, south of Zaafrana, Egypt.
The Egyptian government has also issued a tender in May 2009 for a 250MW wind farm on a build-operate-own (BOO) basis.
In total, 26 international companies have expressed their interest in the tender, according to Reuters.
The country is expecting to produce 12% of power from wind farms and a total of 20% from renewable sources by 2020.
At present, there are wind farms at Zafarana and Hurghada on the country’s Red Sea coast.
