Chilean state-owned copper company Codelco Norte has submitted its plan for a $700m wind farm to the country’s National Environmental Commission (CONAMA), according to local reports.

Codelco Norte intends to construct the wind farm outside the city limits of Calama in Chile’s northern Antofagasta Region (Region II).

The project includes construction and operation of 125 wind turbines.

Construction of the proposed wind farm will create 358 jobs. Upon completion, the complex will employ eight people.

The wind turbines will be 80 meters tall with the capacity to produce between 1.5 and 2.3MW of power, totaling about 250MW.

According to the CODELCO Norte proposal, the wind farm will generate 766,500MWh on average every year.
