Danish wind turbine company Vestas is to go to court in England today in an attempt to force workers staging a sit-in at its Isle of Wight factory to leave the building.

Vestas will apply to Newport County Court for a possession order to remove about 25 workers from the factory site in Newport who have been staging a sit-in since the company announced plans to close the office.

The closure of the site would result in the loss of 625 jobs.

Earlier in the week Vestas said it had sacked 11 employees taking part in the sit-in.

The company has blamed the closure decision on a lack of demand for wind turbines in the UK market, despite a rise in its profits.
