Hong Kong energy supplier GCL-Poly Energy has said that it plans to construct a solar wafer power station in China.

The company will make an investment of nearly $200m for construction of the plant.

The new power station will have a 2GW capacity and will be based in Xuzhou city, Jiangsu province, GCL-Poly Energy CFO Samuel Tong said.

Tong said that by 2010 the company intends to increase polysilicon production from 8,000t to 21,000t and reduce production costs from $36 per kg to $30 per kg.

GCL-Poly Energy supplies green energy such as wind, incineration and cogeneration to China and polysilicon and wafer across the world.
