E.ON is planning to build a gas-fired power station, the same size as its recently shelved coal-powered plant at Kingsnorth, England.

An E.ON spokesman confirmed to The Times newspaper that the company was carrying out a ‘scoping study’ for the construction of a 1,600MW gas power station in Nottinghamshire.

The energy giant told Construction News that electricity demand had fallen due to the recession and a new plant was now not necessary in the country until 2016.

E.ON has submitted a statement outlining its plans for High Marnham to Nottinghamshire County Council. A full planning application is expected next year.
