RWE and its Turkish joint venture partner Turcas have appointed Greek power plant manufacturer Metka to build a 775MW combined cycle gas turbine plant in Turkey.
Metka will construct the plant in Denizli, while Siemens will supply major components such as steam and gas turbines.
RWE is expected to make the final investment decision in the first quarter of 2010, once the building permission is granted.
RWE’s chief strategic officer Leonhard Birnbaum said the plant, which has an efficiency rate of over 55%, will contribute towards securing supply in Turkey.
“The Turkish market is attractive and we wish to carry out a few more projects in order to participate in the growth opportunities the country offers,” he said.
Construction will start next year and the power station is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2012.
RWE has 70% stake in the Turkish joint venture.
