Australia will make a $50m investment in green technologies in India.

India has criticised the so-called “Australian Proposal” on climate change that seeks to remove the distinction between rich and poorer nations, calling on both sides to cut emissions, reports Reuters.

Developing nations and China say negotiations should be based on a previously agreed UN framework that calls for rich countries to implement high emissions cuts while poorer nations face no such limitations.

Greenpeace climate change expert K. Srinivas told Reuters that China, G-77 and other developing countries are already opposing the Australian proposal.

“India is saying no to the proposal and Australia would definitely want India to dilute its stand,” Srinivas said.

Representatives from about 190 countries will meet in Copenhagen next month hoping to agree terms for a new climate change pact.
