Nokia Siemens Networks says it will explore new alliances and business opportunities in the energy sector.
The company says it aims to benefit from the emergence of sustainable energy generation, liberalisation of energy markets and overall focus on environmental responsibility.
It intends to use its available expertise and technology in the areas of renewable energy, intelligent power grids and smart metres.
Nokia Siemens can see a synergy in its telecom business and the extension of its product applications to the energy sector, according to Nokia Siemens Networks head of operations and business software Juhani Hintikka.
Nokia Siemens has already teamed up with software company ServusNet to help wind power operators optimise power generation and delivery.
Its smart metering solution, based on its charge@once software and already serving more than 500 million telecom subscribers around the world will be extended and include measure energy consumption in real time.
Similarly, its Open EMS Suite is being offered as an ideal software platform for the energy sector.
