The UK’s 840MW Marchwood gas-fired power station is ready for full commercial operation, operator Scottish & Southern Energy has announced.
The plant is expected to achieve a thermal efficiency in excess of 58%, making it one of the most efficient gas-fired power stations in the country.
SSE, which holds a 50% stake in the plant, has made a total investment of around £200m.
The company now has an electricity generation portfolio of 11,500MW.
Marchwood is one of a number of new British gas-fired power stations built to replace aging coal-fired and nuclear power plants, many of which are expected to close in the next decade.
