Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO) plans to build a wind power plant in Aichi, central Japan, powering a bid to focus on alternative sources of power generation.

Work on the 6MW power plant will begin in the first quarter of 2010 and it is expected to start operation in the last quarter of the year, reports Reuters.

In recent years, Japan’s utilities have undertaken a number of new wind power projects to boost environmentally friendly power supplies.

KEPCO generates 33.8MW from hydropower, thermal power and nuclear power plants.
