Construction workers at the Staythorpe Power Plant in Nottinghamshire have staged an unofficial protest over an alleged health and safety breach.

The 1,650MW plant will be a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) station is being built by Alstom for RWE npower.

The GMB union told the BBC that the workers took action following concerns over the safety of scaffolding.

Alstom confirmed that a company assessment found no breach in safety procedures and has also asked the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to conduct a further independent review to confirm that appropriate procedures were followed.

Staythorpe power station will be a compact industrial facility and will comprise of four generating units that will serve the whole of Nottinghamshire.
