Alstom has been awarded a deal to automate Eskom’s Kusile thermal power, under a €90m ($121m) deal.

The firm will engineer, supply and install its ALSPA Series 6 distributed control system (DCS) at the project.

The DCS includes controls for turbines, generators and balance of plant (BoP) components along with an advanced control and optimisation application module to ensure consistent and safe control of the plant.

The contract forms part of Eskom’s plan for an expansion that includes building new capacities like Kusile and Medupi plants and optimising existing fleets through retrofits, the company said.
