npower has announced plans to decrease domestic gas prices by about 7% following on from price cuts by other energy suppliers.

The npower price cut will result in savings of £50 on average a year for customers, which represents a cheaper rate than competitor British Gas, the company said.

The utility has also modified its discount structure by offering £10 per year for dual fuel users, increasing the discount from £20 to £50 for gas customers, and from £20 to £40 for electricity users.

British Gas was the first company to slash domestic gas prices by 7%, followed by Scottish and Southern Energy by 4%, and E.On by 6%.
