Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC) has announced the Nam Theun 2 hydropower facility has begun operations in Laos.

The plant began operations by supplying 100MW of power to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, reports AFP.

The firm is also supplying electricity to the Laos state utility, Electricite du Laos.

Thailand will buy about 95% of production from the plant in central Laos on the Nam Theun river.

Laos is expected to earn over $2bn in royalties, dividends and taxes over the 25 years the power company will own the project, according to NTPC.
