CEZ is considering a partnership to increase production of its 1,260MW coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria.

Possible partnership options include a vertical integration with a coal supplier, for Bulgaria’s second-largest coal-fired thermal plant in Varna, according to Reuters.

CEZ had been building a 880MW gas-fired unit at the Varna plant.

The new €800m plant is expected to replace three ageing units at the plant that would be closed by 2012 to meet the EU environmental norms.
